All participating vehicles must receive a Safety Inspection within 21 days prior to the track weekend, but it is the Driver’s responsibility to ensure that their Porsche is safe and fit for track use on the day(s) of the event. Any vehicle found not to be in compliance with our Tech Inspection standards will be excluded from the event and registration monies will be forfeited unless the car can be brought into compliance.
Please Note: One requirement on our inspection form is that your car be fitted with a Fire Extinguisher (minimum 2.2lbs or 1kg Dry Chemical or equivalent) properly installed, metal to metal. This means a metal bracket and retaining strap bolted or screwed firmly to a metal panel in your Porsche. NO PLASTIC MOUNTING BRACKETS !! If you don’t want to drill holes buy a custom mounting plate that bolts to the front mounting points of your passenger seat. Porsche Factory installations are acceptable. The Fire Extinguisher must be within easy reach of the driver.
Another Safety requirement on the Tech Form for our Driver Education program is that any Cabriolet, Roadster, Speedster or Convertible that is not fitted with Porsche Factory Roll-over protection, must have installed an approved Roll-Bar or Roll Cage for occupant protection. All open-top cars must be operated with the roofs up, unless arm restraints are used. In general this applies to all open-top cars manufactured prior to the 1993 993 Series 911 and 986 Boxster models. These and later Porsche ‘soft-top’ cars incorporated fixed or “pop-up” rollover protection. Targa models of any year are not required to have any additional roll bar protection, but must have the targa top installed for track use. Drivers of Boxsters with fixed roll bars should be able to sit in the Driver’s Seat, Helmet on, without the top of their helmet being above a fixed line between the roll bar and the top of the windshield. Those that do are recommended to install an approved Roll Bar Extension. Your Tech centre can advise on all these issues.
Our Approved Tech Inspection Centres will have Original UCR Tech Forms and will authorize the completed form with their own Stamp and signature. Out of Region participants may download our Tech Inspection Form print it and have it completed at one of their Regions’ own Approved Tech Inspection Centres.
The following guidelines from PCA concern the vehicle Seats and Restraint systems, and their adherence is strongly recommended:
If the car is fitted with Stock Seats then only the factory supplied 3-point restraint system should be used. If additional support is desired, then the stock belt can be supplemented by a simple 3″ Lap Belt, properly secured. The additional Lap Belt should be fastened prior to the factory 3-point belt.
If the participant wishes to install a 5 or 6-point Harness, then it is strongly recommended that a Driving Seat, designed for use with such a harness, be installed. This ensures that the proper routing for the harness through the back and base of the seat is provided for the shoulder, lap and anti-submarine belts. Additionally because the addition of a harness and seat means that the occupants are fastened upright in the vehicle, a Roll Bar should be installed to complete the ‘safety system’. It is deemed that the use of part or parts of this ‘safety system’ without all the elements installed is an inherently unsafe environment and should be discouraged. Both Driver & Passenger should have equal ‘safety systems’ installed. Proper installation of all these safety devices is critical to their effectiveness.
Instructors will at their option be free to refuse to ride in a participants vehicle if they have any concerns over the type or combination of safety restraint systems being employed.
