How Does the UCR Fit In ?

UCR is one of 18 Regions in Zone 1, which in turn is one of 13 Zones representing the 139 regions in  the PCA.  UCR with 1,662 primary members (Jan 2011) is the 4th largest region in Zone 1 and 6th largest in PCA (up from 8th place in 2009).  Zone 1 with 12,676 members is the largest Zone representing 22% of PCA’s 58,845 primary members. Geographically, Zone 1 covers the Northeast United States and Eastern Canada.

UCR‘s programs mirror those organized by the Zones and PCA National. PCA National has most of its activities in a week long event in summer called Parade. Parade is held in a different North American city every year. Members and their families from all regions are invited to attend. The National Tech Tactics (formerly Zone 1 Tech Tactics) is a new event in 2011 at the Porsche facility in PA over the last weekend in February with further venues to be announced.

Zone One puts on 4 major events per year:

  • A Rally and Concours d’Elegance weekend in May which moves around the zone and has historically taken place in the more populous regions: NNJR, Metro New York or CVR. Our neighbor, Rennsport Region, has also been the host.
  • A  PCA Club Race : The Clash at Watkins Glen, late May–early June where UCR racers participate in force and where UCR has provided management, registration and grid leadership.
  • A DE event: 48 Hours at The Glen in late June where participants have their own instructor (if needed) and approx. 3 hours and 20 minutes of track time at a lower cost than other weekends. The Friday before the event instructors are invited to taste the open track and complete the National Instructor Training Program. This is a freebee from Zone 1 to thank the instructors for their diligent and hard work during the rest of the year.
  • An Autocross weekend with movable dates so as not to coincide with other regional or National events. Locations tend to be disused airports, huge parking lots or similar. One can attend just one day, however, trophies are only given to two day participants.

All events are run according to the PCRs and “safety first” is the guiding principle.

Zone 1 will be incorporated early 2011 in Maryland, where the new PCA National Office is moving.

The new Zone Representative, our own Jennifer Bischoff-Webb, is helped by a number of volunteers, who as committee chairs oversee the various events. It is her wish to continue the encouragement to UCR members to participate in greater numbers.

Botho von Bose, past Zone 1 Representative is a current UCR member and The Clash co-chair.
