2019 PorschePlatz Preview

Once again Porscheplatz promises to be the place to be!

PORSCHE CARS NORTH AMERICA assisted by UCR volunteers is once again presenting Porscheplatz at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport) the weekend of July 6 and 7 during the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix. This race is part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for exotic prototype and GT race cars, in their only Canadian stop. There are three classes in the race: Prototypes, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona.

Porsches race in the latter two categories. In GT LeMans Porsche is up against factory teams from Corvette, Ford, BMW and Ferrari. In GT Daytona teams representing Lamborghini, Mercedes, Ferrari, Acura, Audi and more will be racing. Competition within the classes is fierce and with the disparity in speed between classes there is lots of on track action.

Racing in the GT Daytona class there are graduates of the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada. Scott Hargrove in 2014 and 2017, and Zacharie Robichon in 2018 have both won this series. These two drivers race for Pfaff Motorsports which is also a graduate of the GT3 Cup Canada. This series will also race this weekend at Mosport so a chance to see some new young Canadian talent.

Porscheplatz will be located across from the pits and has fenced parking for Porsches attending. Within the hospitality tent there will be a live TV feed all weekend. Your ticket also gives you access to the paddock, autograph session and the Grid Walk on Sunday morning. Presentations will occur throughout both days. In the past these have included Porsche Cars North America and Canada, IMSA, Michelin and of course drivers and teams. Parade laps for you to drive your Porsche on the track will happen during the weekend usually early Sunday. A barbeque lunch is provided Saturday and Sunday.

Last year late Saturday afternoon Patrick Long came by the tent. He is the only North American Factory Porsche driver and talked about the movie being filmed at the track that weekend, The Art of Racing in the Rain. He also talked about an event he puts on in California for air-cooled Porsches only, Luftgekult. He came outside after his presentation to look at our cars. We can’t guarantee such a surprise this year but who knows.

The UCR volunteers are looking forward to seeing you July 6 and 7. Tickets, good for four days admission, should be purchased on line at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park website.

This is your opportunity to join other Porsche owners to share your passion and cheer on the Porsche teams participating in the event. </>
