2019 October Social

Porsche Centre Oakville hosts a super social evening

WHAT A PERFECT WARM EVENING it was to get the Porsche out for a drive to our Social at Porsche Centre Oakville (PCO). Over 130 UCR members were welcomed by our hosts Anthony Poole (VP Operations, Policaro Group) and Nicole Trivieri (Marketing Manager).

Nicole had arranged a wonderful assortment of delicious pizzas along with a large assortment of veggies and dip, fruit trays and scrumptious Italian desserts. Our members greatly appreciated the food as they chatted with other club members. As usual, there was a great assortment of cars on display in the showroom, including a beautiful low mileage 1984 911 (930) Turbo and a 1964 356 C.

At 7:45 pm, I formally welcomed everyone to the Social and thanked Anthony Poole and his team at PCO for hosting our event. I then announced that commencing in January 2020 our Socials will be organized by our new Socials Co-Chairs team of Mahwash and Minesh Dattani. The Dattanis are fairly recent new UCR members and we thank them for volunteering for this role. I continued to speak briefly about the remaining 2019 UCR events including the October 16th Rally which I then asked Rally Meister Sajjad Butt to speak about further.

After thanking Stefan Walther for a successful Germany Trip, in which 28 UCR members participated, I announced the 2020 Germany Trip for next Autumn. Although the Frankfurt car show won’t be on the menu (as it is a bi-annual event) Stefan will have a few new venues and surprises on the agenda.

The 2020 UCR Concours will be combined with the Zone 1 Concours. This will be our premier event of the year and will again take place on Labour Day weekend. We will form a Concours committee and begin searching for a venue, most likely in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area.

I thanked PCO for being the Title Sponsor of our 2019 Concours and relayed the tremendous positive feedback from members about the PCO display and PCO’s involvement in the event and also thanked co-chairs Kye Wankum and David Walker for a very successful Concours d’Elegance; which set record attendance and participation levels with over 130 registered Porsches. I then announced that the 2020 UCR Concours will be combined with the Zone 1 Concours. This will be our premier event of the year and will again take place on Labour Day weekend. We will form a Concours committee and begin searching for a venue, most likely in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area.  A Zone 1 Concours event takes place over a number of days, including car preparation on Friday, with a cocktail reception that evening. Saturday we will see the Porsches on the grass for the Concours event followed up that evening with an awards dinner. Sunday will allow PCA members to spend some time in the area, maybe on a UCR driving tour or rally. Given the scale of such an event we will be reaching out for a large number volunteers to assist.

I announced that the November 12th Social will be at Fuzion Banquet Hall in Mississauga. This is a new venue for UCR and we look forward to the evening.

We had six new members registered for the evening and four were in attendance. I presented UCR pins to new members: Sandro Stramenga, Jack Carcasole, Steve Liberty and Sante Aceti congratulating them into the club.

After the new member photos I formally invited Anthony Poole to speak to our members. Anthony spoke about the great relationship between PCO and UCR and how he and I had a meeting before the Social to review our partnership for the upcoming 2020 year. Anthony then announced that Policaro will open a new Porsche dealership in the Kitchener/Waterloo area in 2021 as well as a new service centre in St. Catharines, around the same time. I then presented Anthony with a UCR appreciation award – a framed 2019 Concours poster, thanking him for PCO’s friendship and support. Anthony later mentioned that the print will be hung in the PCO boardroom.

Anthony then drew tickets for the raffle prizes and we had five lucky winners, including Dave Moore, a PCA Test Drive participant. Thank you again PCO for the great door prizes and hospitality.

Thank you to Jackie Metcalfe (Director) and Terrence Tong (VP) for manning the registration desk and to Kathleen Wong (Past President) and Terrence for organizing the Social. </>
