Sy Ali’s 1995 911 Carrera

GROWING UP in the United Kingdom, the cars I lusted after were marques such as Aston Martin and Jaguar, neither of which I could afford. Porsches, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis were just a distant dream. My car obsession in the UK included a number of cars over the years: an Austin Mini, Jaguar 3.8 MKII, Fiat 124 Sport, Ford Capri, Lancia Fulvia, to name a few.

Driving north on the 404 on a beautiful summer’s day about 25 years ago I heard a loud roar. I looked in my rearview mirror and two Porsche 930 Turbos whizzed past me with flames bellowing from their exhausts. I thought “omigawd” and was immediately hooked. I started my search for a 911 soon after and found a Guards Red 911 SC in mint condition.

Having owned my PCA UCR concours-winning 911 SC for many years, I started to look for a later-model 911 and came across a stunning 993 that was converted to RS Clubsport specs. The owner was moving to California and I immediately made an offer that was accepted. I have not regretted a single minute with my purchase and enjoy attending the various PCA UCR events including the driving tours. Unfortunately, I have not yet recovered from the Porsche bug and need to restrain myself from getting yet another 911. </>
