I’ve Been Everywhere, Man

We had glorious weather on June 3rd for the inaugural Southwest Counties Driving Tour. Forty-eight happy participants in 26 shiny Porsches showed up at the Brant Sports Complex near Paris. After the safety briefing, signing waivers, and distributing route maps, we headed west into rural Ontario with twisty roads, for about ninety minutes of relaxed and scenic driving. We travelled through the villages of Princeton, Drumbo, Reidsville, Glen Morris, and ended up at Ayr. This might explain the nickname for the tour.

Our lunch stop was at the Abe Erb Pub in Ayr, where we enjoyed a tasty meal and some beverages. Part two of the tour headed south towards Lake Erie. We travelled past Drumbo again, then through Delhi to Port Rowan on the lake. The last few kilometres featured some sweeping bends which thrilled drivers and passengers.

This leg of the event saw a minor mishap where the oldest car, a beautifully restored 944, suffered what appeared to be a major issue. Stephen Michalchuk and his son Andrew, who had come all the way from London, were able to get towed home after a brief wait. Fortunately, the problem turned out to be a minor oil leak.

After parking the Porsches in a community centre lot (reserved exclusively for our event), we walked over to a local bakery, the Country Fork, where we enjoyed delicious desserts on the patio. Participants had a choice to explore the quaint antique stores in Port Rowan, or head back to Paris with its restaurants and Grand River views. </>
