Exhibit revealed at the Canadian International Auto Show
PORSCHE CARS CANADA, LTD., revealed a special exhibit at the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) this year in honour of “70 Years of the Porsche Sports Car”. The display offered attendees a unique walkthrough of the Porsche brand over the past 70 years with historically significant classic Porsche models present. Furthermore, a glimpse into the future of Porsche sports cars was also available in the form of a scale model version of Mission E, the first pure electrically driven vehicle that will be produced in Zuffenhausen.
At the AutoShow, I had the opportunity to meet Achim Stejskal, Director of the Porsche Museum and Historical Public Relations from Porsche AG, who promised to send Porsche #1, the very first 356 registered by Porsche on June 8, 1948 to Toronto this year as part of the traveling road show celebrating 70 years. Achim went on to introduce the special exhibit, stating: “We will be celebrating ‘70 Years of the Porsche Sports Car’ throughout the year across the globe and we are thrilled that we have the display available here at the Canadian International Auto Show. The special display communicates the technical excellence integrated into the historical portfolio and how the brand is taking measured steps to ensure that Porsche continues to fascinate – even beyond another 70 years.” The display included Porsche vehicles from a variety of generations, including: 356, 912, 911 (930) Turbo, Carrera GT, and a 918 Spyder. A scale model version of the Mission E concept study was also present, integrating a captivating virtual reality component.
Also present was Porsche Cars Canada’s new President and CEO, Marc Ouayoun who brings extensive automotive business management experience to lead Porsche’s continued growth in Canada. A strong believer in Porsche Clubs and the special relationship members have with the brand through their beloved Porsches, Marc promises to engage deeply with UCR as his extended family and circle of friends as he settles into life in a new country. For the past six years, Marc has been the Managing Director at Porsche France. Mr Ouayoun joined the brand in 2006 to oversee the sales and network development within the French organization. His career began in 1995 at Daimler and he has held various marketing positions in France, Germany, and Great Britain.
“Porsche #1 To Visit Toronto in 2018”
Porsche is celebrating this year’s anniversary with numerous activities around the world. On February 3 “The Porsche Effect” opened at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. In Germany, the first “70 years of the Porsche sports car” exhibition will open from March 20 through May 31, at “DRIVE, the Volkswagen Group Forum” in Berlin, where I plan to be in April. The Porsche Museum will also be holding its own anniversary celebrations with a comprehensive special exhibition opening on June 9. On the same day, Porsche will be inviting sports car fans to its “Sports Car Together Day” at all of its sites around the world. For the weekend of June 16–17, Porsche will host employees, residents of the Zuffenhausen district and prospective customers to a public celebration in and around the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. The “Festival of Speed” held from July 12–15, at the Goodwood race track in the UK will also celebrate the anniversary, as will the “Rennsport Reunion” in California from September 27–30. The celebrations will conclude with the “Sound Night” event to be held for the first time in the PorscheArena in Stuttgart on October 13. Planning to attend one of these global events?
