UCR members were treated to a wonderful evening of racing conversation at Mimico Cruising Club at our May Social on May 13, 2014. Kyle Marcelli and Martin Barkey, who are co-driving in the Continental Tire SportsCar Series in a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, entertained the crowd of some 70 UCR members. Laurance Yap, Director of Marketing with Porsche Cars Canada, moderated the session. Jacob Barkey, Martin’s son, showed a video of racing clips to set the tone for the evening.
Both Kyle and Martin were clear about their gratitude for the support of their wives, families and sponsors to help them achieve their dreams of racing in the Pro Circuit. We heard about their mental, physical and health regimens as well as the types of cars, favourite tracks and corners and the overall budget of this passion. Kyle also races a Ferrari 458 in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, which is the amalgamation of the ALMS and the Grand Am Series. These inspiring men shared their personal stories of their respective backgrounds and what inspires them to reach for the podium.
We wish Kyle and Martin all the best in this 2014 race season and we very much appreciate Laurance’s thought-provoking questions to inspire the evening. The Social ended with many members walking away with spectacular raffle prizes, thanks to all the donors! A special thank you to Dagmar Ruehl-Pegg for coordinating the raffle prizes and Kim Viney for taking care of on-site registration!
