Apr 24: Rally @ Shift Into Spring

With the return of Upper Canada Region’s signature kick-off event, the Shift Into Spring Open House, also comes the return of the popular spring rally, hosted and organized once again by UCR Rally Master Sajjad Butt.

The Spring Rally will go from 8 a.m. and wrap up at 11:30 a.m., starting and ending at CSN 427 Auto Collision at 395 Evans Avenue in Etobicoke, the site of the Shift Into Spring Open House.

Prizes will be on offer and the rally fee is only a nominal $20 per Porsche. Each Porsche must have a driver and a navigator.

Join fellow UCR enthusiasts, enjoy some friendly competition, on one of the very first driving events of the season. A rally is a technical driving event on public roads that involves multiple checkpoints to time the Porsches and penalize early or late arrivals. Trip odometers are set to zero at the calibration point after a short drive from the starting point, to get drivers and navigators accustomed to the written instructions of the route. From the calibration point forward, there is no information about road names. Navigators must pay careful attention to the way points, landmarks, and constantly check with drivers for odometer readings. Driving directions forward of the calibration point are provided in kilometres and miles, such as “Drive 3 kilometres (1.86 miles) and turn right,” followed by a step-by-step distance to each way point for navigation of the entire rally. The route instruction sheet also has questions about significant landmarks to score points for observation, so it is important to familiarize yourself with the questions before driving off and keep your eyes open to recognize and record the landmarks.

Participants must arrive at CSN 427 Auto Collision at 8 a.m. sharp to register and attend the driver’s briefing. Refreshments will be provided. Porsche rally participants will depart at 8:30 a.m.
