UCR Spring Rally

Come join UCR members on a half-day journey through some of the most thrilling roads to drive on, surrounded by scenic sights of the countryside and cityscapes to end at the 2017 UCR Open House at 427 Auto Collision.

There will be lots of prizes and the Rally entry fee is a nominal $20 per car. Lunch is not included in the registration fee, but available at the end of the rally at the UCR Open House for a charitable donation by purchasing meal tickets.

Participants must be at the Meadowvale Club, 6750 Mississauga Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L3 (located behind the Hilton Hotel on Mississauga Rd at Argentia Drive, just south of 401) at 8:00am sharp to register and attend the drivers briefing while snacking on coffee and donuts. Cars will depart at 8:30am.

A Rally is a technical driving event. Multiple checkpoints time the cars and penalize early or late arrivals at checkpoints. Trip odometers are set to zero at the calibration point after a short drive from the starting point to get drivers and navigators accustomed to the written instructions of the route. From the calibration point forward, there will be no information about road names. Navigators must pay careful attention to the way points, landmarks and constantly check with drivers for odometer readings. Driving directions forward of the calibration point are provided in Kilometres and Miles, such as “Drive 3km (1.86 Miles) and turn right” followed by step-by-step distance to each way point for navigation of the entire rally. The route instruction sheet will also have questions about significant landmarks to score points for observation, so familiarize yourself with the questions before you drive off and keep eyes open to recognize and record the landmarks.

  • Starting Point:         The Meadowvale Club, 6750 Mississauga Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L3 (located behind the Hilton Hotel on Mississauga Rd at Argentia Drive, just south of 401)
  • Ending Point:           427 Auto Collision, 395 Evans Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 1K8
  • Register At:             www.clubregistration.net
  • Register Opens:     Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 9:00pm

Spring Awakening Niagara Driving Tour

Kick off the 2018 driving season in style! With many Porsches emerging from their winter hibernation slumber, get the juices pumping once again in not only your car but also your own body with this fantastic drive up and down and around the mighty Niagara escarpment — starting in the Hamilton area and wrapping up with a mini car show on the south lawn of Canada’s largest winery Peller Estates, complete with a gourmet wine and canapé reception!

The route begins at the top of the escarpment with spectacular views of Lake Ontario, various towns and villages, and even Toronto’s skyline; then twists up and down some beautiful rolling back country; dips below the Welland Canal by way of the Thorold tunnel (gear down so we can hear you sing!); then connects with the picturesque Niagara River Parkway and heads into Old Town Niagara-On-The-Lake.

A happy ending awaits as we pull onto the south lawn of Peller Estates winery for a mini car show and gourmet reception of fine wine and scrumptious canapés created by Executive Chef and Cityline personality Jason Parsons, inspired by local Niagara farms and growers. If desired, extend the enjoyment with fellow Porschephiles on the patio of Peller’s Barrel House Grill as the sun sets over the vineyards — and our beautiful cars.

FRIDAY JUNE 15, 2018

Muskoka Locks Driving Tour (Trent-Severn Waterway)

The tour will feature three types of locks used in the Trent-Severn waterway, a canal system initially conceived for military purposes, then commercial considerations and finally recreational use by the time it was finished.  Our tour will kick off in Brechin, east of Lake Simcoe and south of Orillia.  The firs stop will be the Kirkfield Lift Lock, originally completed in 1907, and modernized in 1969.  This is the smaller of the lift locks on the Trent-Severn waterway, with a lift of 49 feet.  The route from Kirkfield will head north west through Washago, taking a brief blast up Highway 11 to follow Route 13, a wonderful route that dances over the Canadian Shield into Bala where we will stop for lunch.  After lunch, we will head out along Highway 38, full of nice sweeping curves to Highway 400 for a short run down to Route 34,  which will take us to the Big Chute Marine Railway.  Originally built in 1917, the current carriage is the third, completed in 1978, and is capable of carrying boats up to 100 feet long.  It is an impressive feat of engineering.  After a visit we will continue to Port Severn, where we will visit a classic lock, which is also the last lock of the Trent-Severn system before Georgian Bay.  We will have a brief stop for refreshments, after which participants can arrange to return to the GTA or enjoy a weekend in cottage country.

  • Hosted by Larry Funnell(email: [email protected])
  • 20 Porsches, 200 kilometres, 3½ hours total drive time, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost TBA/person (includes lunch, tax and tip).

The Land Between has been described by author Brian Robert as “the chaotic collision of the St. Lawrence Lowlands and Canadian Shield,” a large swath of area that runs from Georgian Bay in the west to Kingston in the east — “rolling hills, flat plains, hard rock and conifers.” Further details will be published here prior to registration opening, stay tuned!

Driving Tour To South Coast Jazz Festival (Port Dover)

Sign up early for perhaps the most interesting driving tour of the 2018 season! We currently plan to leave from either Oakville or Milton, and follow a special route over and around Hamilton Mountain and then stop for a group lunch enroute to Port Dover in Norfolk County, the home of a number of wineries. Jeremy organized a great event in 2017 which had us crisscrossing the escarpment on some exciting roads, which many of us felt was the best event we had been engaged in that year; this driving tour will encompass a number of those elements.

Port Dover is the home of the South Coast Jazz Festival, now in its fifth year and attracting top-tier jazz and blues performers over the festival weekend (starts Friday and concludes Sunday afternoon), with the main event taking place Saturday evening, the day of this driving tour. This driving tour includes a ticket for each person to the festival, which includes a reception hosted by Dini Petty, dinner and the evening performances. A special “Porsche paddock” is planned next to the main event venue, so parking at this busy festival is taken care of!

For those who wish to stay overnight, a block of hotel rooms has been reserved but be warned — the number of hotel rooms in Norfolk County is rather limited so, if you want to reserve a room, please register early and then contact John Buckingham regarding the available hotel options. In any case, the block of rooms will be released by June 1, in fairness to the demand from other festival participants. And, for those staying over, a group breakfast is being considered AND your festival ticket will give you access to any of the other performances that day.

Cost for the event is $130 per person and includes lunch and the festival events (reception, dinner, performances). For more information on the South Coast Jazz Festival, please visit http://www.southcoastjazz.com/

  • Hosted by John Buckingham and Jeremy Gunness, [email protected],
  • 25 Porsches, 225 kilometres
  • cost $130 (includes reception, dinner, music performances)
  • Registration via ClubReg is currently open

Through the guided wine tasting, we learn about Southbrook’s award-winning, sustainable and biodynamic viticulture practices. A picnic lunch and wine pairings are served. After lunch, stretch your legs as we take the scenic route to Vineland. Next stop is 13th Street Winery where we sample a couple of Ontario’s quintessential varietals, tour the estate, and don’t forget to treat yourself to butter tarts and other goodies from the famous 13th Bakery! For the art lovers, the gallery at 13th showcases original works by Canadian artists. Last but not the least, a pit stop at Cherry Lane for snacks and juices, before we head back home.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2018

Nickelball Bay to Shining Bay Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend Tour

On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, our Nickelball Tour takes the group North from Parry Sound across the newest and smoothest section of Highway 400, with its playful exits and on-ramps, past the historic canoe route to the west, then through the Canadian Shield for lunch in Sudbury overlooking one of the city’s 330 lakes.  After lunch, our route heads to the famous Big Nickel and then further North past the picturesque A.Y. Jackson Lookout returning for our dinner and overnight stay.   Sunday brings breakfast and takes us West across the Trans-Canada Highway to the curves and white quartzite mountains of our approach to Manitoulin Island. We’ll grab lunch and touring the largest freshwater island in the world along open and clear roads, with a stop or two along the way to shop local stores and galleries. Running back and forth on the island roads, we’ll arrive at South Baymouth where some of us will catch the return ferry while others may take the North route back through Little Current on the mainland route. All told, this event presents the most diverse, varied and unexpected landscapes in the province.

Note: Once you are registered, we will send you detailed instructions for hotel and ferry bookings.
