Muskoka Locks Driving Tour (Trent-Severn Waterway)

Back by popular demand, join us for a great day of Porsche driving on some of the best twisty roads through Muskoka, exploring the incredible mighty locks of the Trent-Severn Waterway, with a pit stop into Crossroads restaurant for a scrumptious lunch! The tour features three types of locks used in the Trent-Severn Waterway, a canal system initially conceived for military purposes, then commercial considerations and finally recreational use by the time it was finished. The Kirkfield Lift Lock was originally completed in 1907 and then modernized in 1969, the smaller of the lift locks on the Trent-Severn Waterway, with a lift of 49 feet. We explore wonderful roads that dance and sweep up and around and over the Canadian Shield. We pop into the Big Chute Marine Railway, originally built in 1917, and the current carriage is the third, completed in 1978, capable of carrying boats up to 100 feet long — it is an impressive feat of engineering. We also visit Port Severn’s classic lock, the last of the Trent-Severn system before Georgian Bay. Afterwards we enjoy a brief stop for refreshments before departing back to the GTA. Or maybe make this the start of a wonderful weekend vacation getaway in cottage country!

Hosted by Larry Funnell driving-tours@pcaucr.org, 30 Porsches, 300 kilometres, cost $43 per person (includes Crossroads buffet lunch)
