Niagara Winter Driving Tour (Formerly Called Fun Run)

    Driving isn’t seasonal and driving a Porsche needn’t be either — so come on out to one of two PCA UCR winter driving tours, formerly called fun runs, set for Saturday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, March 24, proudly sponsored by Porsche Centre Oakville which will be providing the lead SUV.

    The only prerequisite: your Porsche must wear, at minimum, all-season tires but, preferably, winter tires.

    This is a fantastic opportunity to stretch the legs of a Cayenne, Macan or Panamera, leave the 911 or Boxster tucked away in winter hibernation. Plus, as a bonus, the larger Porsches allow you to bring along more than just one passenger. The more the merrier, fun is best enjoyed when shared.

    But all Porsches, including even two-doors, are welcome with the appropriate seasonal footwear. No summer performance tires are permitted. And, sorry, no Volkswagen winter beaters.

    These driving tours follow the Niagara escarpment, starting just outside Hamilton and wrapping up in Queenston Heights and Old Town Niagara-On-The-Lake on the Niagara River.

    Porsche heaven awaits with some of the escarpment’s best twists and turns and ups and downs.

    Total mileage is around 120 kilometres, total drive time is about two and a half hours. We meet at 1 p.m. and, at the end, at 5 p.m. we enjoy a nice gourmet dinner with fellow club members and friends in a dining room overlooking our very own reserved personal private Porsche parking lot.

    The dinner is a delicious three-course meal at the fabulous Old Winery Restaurant in Niagara-On-The-Lake. Cost is $49 per person which includes tax and 18-percent gratuity. Appetizer is a choice of soup, caesar salad or mixed artisanal greens. Main course is choice of prosciutto-wrapped chicken with carbonara pasta, house-made gnocchi in a gorgonzola cream sauce, or catch of the day (likely pan-seared salmon but to be determined). Dessert is a decadent surprise! Bread service, coffee or tea are included, other beverages are extra.
