Tyler Comat had a ‘great’ weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt circuit October 19 – 21. Using the title sponsor’s Eagle RS Goodyear tires, BRAID road and race wheels, Millers Oils and Moton shocks the car performed up to the challenge and was supported by Karl Poeltl’s Racer’s Edge team for the weekend.
On Friday Tyler drove a 944 Turbo race car for the first time in three driver’s education sessions. It was also equipped with Millers Oils, Moton shocks and supported by the Racer’s Edge team. Then he drove it in Saturday’s qualifying session to a new 944 Super Cup track record!
For the Saturday race he switched to the Team Comat 944 Cup car that his father, Bill Comat, had qualified in third place. Tyler drove in his signature smooth yet lightning quick style to win the race. This set the grid for Sunday’s championship race. With several lead changes during the race, the competition was intense but Tyler prevailed finishing just ahead of Randy Smith with Chris Lubinski in third. It was pleasure to see these three Canadians dominate the podium.
Bill Comat driving the 944 Turbo was the runner-up in Super Cup.
Tyler also set the fastest lap of the weekend in 944 Cup. Now that is one ‘great‘ weekend, eh!
The most prestigious prize going to Tyler is a full season of entry fees in the SCCA World Challenge Series for 2013. Even though this is worth more than $30,000, it is a difficult task to find sponsorship to field a competitive car for 2013. Team Comat is actively seeking sponsorship for the 2013 World Challenge season.
