Niagara Driving Tour

Summer Cruise with a German Barbecue

SUNDAY, AUGUST 5TH, 2018 was a hot, sunny day without a cloud in the sky for our Summer Cruise and German Barbecue Niagara Driving Tour in the bosom of picturesque Niagara Region.

Our fully booked driving tour boasted a respectable 37 Porsches and over 70 eager participants as well as a substantial wait list of people hoping to get in this amazing event.

Hosted by Klaus Reif and Stefan Walther, the tour kicked off at Denninger’s Foods of the World in Stoney Creek, Ontario where everyone got a chance to socialize over complimentary coffee while meeting and greeting old friends and new acquaintances drawn together by their love of cars.

After participants got caught up on current events and what’s happening in the world of Porsche, all cars, vintage and new alike, lined the reserved parking lot where the public was invited to a Porsche Car Show starting at 11a.m.

The event is always a popular venue with the public and gives enthusiasts an opportunity to get up close and personal with their favourite cars. The time flew by and before we knew it, it was time for the noon safety briefing by Stefan Walther. Everyone got the rundown on the upcoming day’s events before being treated to a swag bag of goodies, compliments of the amazing  Denninger’s staff!

After the tastings, the group was treated to a wonderful outdoor, gourmet German barbecue where local chef Stacie Royds crafted several unique takes on German favorites – bratwurst, schnitzel, potato dumplings and apple strudel baked to perfection.

Upon leaving Denninger’s, the enthusiastic group was treated to a spectacularly curvy route winding through magnificent Niagara wine country, a Porsche parade through Old Town Niagara-On-The-Lake and a scenic lookout on Lake Ontario.

Like so many other days this summer, the sun did not disappoint with temperatures over 30 degrees, (over 40 with the humidity) gracing the 150-kilometre procession of Porsches making their way from Stoney Creek to Niagara-On-The-Lake.

The tour culminated on the lawn of Reif Estate Winery where fellow tour host and club member, Klaus Reif, gave a private wine tour complete with wine tastings of many of his delicious wines. Klaus, a Porsche enthusiast who joined last year, also created a custom-labelled PCA UCR Special Reserve two bottle pack (Cabernet Merlot and Riesling) at a very special “club member only” price.

After the tastings, the group was treated to a wonderful outdoor, gourmet German barbecue where local chef Stacie Royds crafted several unique takes on German favorites – bratwurst, schnitzel, potato dumplings and apple strudel baked to perfection.

Organizer Stefan Walther said he was extremely happy with the turnout at this event, the highest of any driving tour this year. He is looking forward to organizing several others in the not-too-distant future.

Best advice: Keep your eyes open for upcoming events and register early. These events fill up quickly! </>
