Exciting Events, New Dealerships, Big New Warehouse!
OVER 70 PERCENT OF ALL PORSCHES are still on the road, sales are booming, three new dealerships are opening in Markham and Kitchener-Waterloo and St. Catharines — and now a new state-of-the-art parts distribution warehouse boasting 175,000 square feet will effectively serve all with next-day delivery to Porsche Centres across Canada.
“Porsche On Fire!” shouted the headline on these Provinz pages one year ago, talking about 2019 being “one of the biggest, most significant in all of the German automaker’s 70 years” — particularly noting the launches of the new 992 version of the iconic 911 sports car and the hugely anticipated, game-changing all-electric Taycan sports sedan.
So here we are 12 months later, in 2020, and the inferno rages on.
It’s almost unbelievable to think that just a few short years ago, and for quite a long time before, just three Porsche dealerships served all of southern Ontario — Porsche Centre Downtown Toronto (note new name), Pfaff Porsche and Porsche Of London.
Since then Porsche Centre Oakville and Porsche Centre North Toronto opened their doors, both to great acclaim and success, both earning the prestigious Premier designation for outstanding customer service.
This year we will add two more — Porsche Centre Markham and Porsche Centre Kitchener-Waterloo.
And in the not-too-distant future the dealership tally will reach an incredible eight with the opening of a Porsche Centre in St. Catharines.
Your PCA UCR is already planning events with the new dealerships, a spring driving tour that will pit-stop into the St. Catharines site to view progress and site plans, as well as an autumn social in Markham to check out the first in the world to showcase Porsche’s new global retail architecture, uniquely integrated into Cadillac Fairview’s Markville shopping complex, a full-service dealership boasting 50,000 square feet.
Congratulations to Pfaff on the Markham venture, and to the Policaro Group, owner of Porsche Centre Oakville and the future Kitchener-Waterloo and St. Catharines businesses.
Serious about the expansion and dedicated to its dealer network and customers, Porsche Canada opened its first-ever parts distribution warehouse last fall in Mississauga, located in the Heartland Town Centre and with easy access to the transportation channels of the 400-series highways and Pearson International Airport, promising next-day delivery from coast to coast. PCA UCR was there for the grand unveiling and media tour, see accompanying photos. Years in the making, the warehouse is a vast 175,000 square feet, stacked to the rafters with large shelving and staffed around the clock. It even has a special self-contained storage room for the Taycan’s sensitive electric components.
All of this growth is excellent news for PCA UCR club members and Porsche owners across the country, servicing and repairing our prized automobiles more quickly thus giving us more time on the road — and on the track. We no longer need to rely on many parts having to be flown in from the United States and Germany, possibly taking several days or weeks.
Porsche ownership is, of course, not just about sales and service, and nobody knows this better than our club members with our club’s vast calendar of great events. Porsche Canada recognizes this too and is revving up for a spectacular ride in 2020 — you’re invited along, mark your calendar!
- July 3 to 5 — Porscheplatz at the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
- Aug. 28 to 30 — GT3 Cup Challenge race at Calabogie Motorsports Park
- Sept. 18 to 20 — Destination Porsche Cobble Beach (extraordinary car show, many different marques and models not just Porsche, presented by Porsche Canada)
- Sept. 25 to 27 — Destination Porsche Mont Tremblant with GT3 Cup Challenge race
And if you happen to be out west mid-September, Porsche Canada will host Destination Porsche West in the Kelowna area.
These events are all incredible opportunities to socialize and show off your Porsche, new or vintage, with fellow club members and enthusiasts. Porsche Canada goes out of its way to accommodate owners and fans, especially PCA members, usually with a special corral and a plethora of activities, so be sure to take advantage.
I don’t much enjoy watching racing and had never been to a live race until Porscheplatz two years ago, now I won’t miss it for the world. It is a highlight of my summer.
I don’t much enjoy watching racing and had never been to a live race until Porscheplatz two years ago, now I won’t miss it for the world. It is a highlight of my summer. Think of a big Porsche picnic with fellow fans and friends, surrounded by our beautiful cars, new and vintage, with the back drop — or front and centre, if you prefer — of a roaring, exciting race. There’s also the opportunity to take your own Porsche out on the track with spirited parade laps.
Last year at Porscheplatz I had so much fun with other activities that I didn’t end up watching even one second of the actual race. I certainly heard it though. It’s a wonderful intoxicating sound! An atmosphere full of adrenaline that excites all the car lover’s senses. I have gained an appreciation.
So come on out and enjoy! If you are interested in volunteering, PCA UCR and Porsche Canada would love to have you, please send an E-mail to Jackie Metcalfe at email@example.com.
Get connected and stay tuned through the club website at PCAUCR.org as well as with our social media — simply do a search for “PCA UCR” on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. We’ll keep you up-to-date with registrations and opportunities for all events.
In the meantime, perhaps your Porsche is in hibernation and you need to beat the winter blahs, catch up with fellow club members and Toronto Star Wheels journalist Jim Kenzie, our guest speaker who is always entertaining and insightful, at this month’s social Feb. 11 at Fuzion Banquet Hall in Mississauga. In March we will be at Porsche Centre North Toronto, a great venue to check out all the latest and greatest models from the world’s best sports car maker while catching up with club friends.
And, of course, don’t miss the Canadian International Auto Show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this month from Feb. 14 to 23. Get live updates on our PCA UCR social media and look for a feature article recap next month in Provinz.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! </>
