THE WAY WE WERE…

Provinz postage was 15 cents for a single folded page. We had 95 members and PCA membership had to be paid by Postal Money Order in US funds. Our fourth Concours d’Elegance was scheduled for August 12 but we had no venue. Most of the talk was of upcoming autocross events. Parade was in Washington, D.C.

Provinz was up to 32 pages with Botho von Bose on the cover, winning a trip to Zone 1 DE at Watkins Glen. Forty-two were registered for Parade at Grand Traverse, Michigan. Terry Charles had been announced as our 500th member and UCR was growing 50 percent a year. Seventy-eight attended the April DE weekend at Mosport. Upcoming Shannonville single DE days were $65 while the Rennsport weekend was $135, including Saturday dinner. Three days at Watkins Glen with NNJR was US$95. The precursor to Shift Into Spring was called Tire Tech, hosted by Green & Ross at their Yorkdale site. We all received goodie bags and lunch with door prizes too. Ah, those were the days!

Gord McNeil was touting Parade at Lake Placid. Lots of UCR entrants. Super Dave Osborne wrote about getting started with DE. Now, he’s the boss! Christopher Pfaff provided Ben Ciantar with a new 993 for a weekend test drive. His review was enthusiastic. Abe Reinhartz and a cast of local characters went to Roebling Road, Savanna, GA, for a DE event. Bruce Farrow apprised us of the 19A insurance endorsement that we should have. Ben Ciantar wrote about getting new wheels and his diameters went up to 17 inches.

Bill Thompson had a trip to Germany, ending surprisingly at Osterreichring Grand Prix track in a 911 RSR. Peter Carroll wrote a feature as new webmaster. Paula Sellner wrote about the dearly-departed Cannonball Pub in Wyoming, NY.
