Refuting Clichés

PURISTS DISLIKING THE CAYENNE is a cliché amongst Porsche enthusiasts. But history shows that the so-called “purists” didn’t like the 911 when it first came out either. “Don’t you dare take away our 356.” We all know how that turned out.

My “OG” 2006 Cayenne Turbo S was my first Porsche, my way of dipping my toe into the Porsche pool, so to speak. (For our older readers, like Ed., OG apparently means “Original Gangster” or “exceptional.” —Ed.) This 520-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4X4 is a blast to drive all year, but after a big snow dump, the fun is just next level.

I’m passionate about my 997 of course, but we are undoubtedly blessed as a community that Porsche puts the same design, engineering, and build-quality effort into its four-door line as the two-doors. The new Cayenne Turbo GT is an insane performer, by any standard.

I’m equally proud to own a rare and powerful Porsche that absolutely dominates winter. And come to think of it, I can’t say I’ve ever even met one of these “purists.” </>
