As the plane descended towards the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, my heart raced with anticipation. I was about to immerse myself in a city celebrated for its rich culture and history and engage with the camaraderie of the Porsche Club of Argentina —a community united by a shared passion for Porsches.
Upon contacting the club before my visit in March, I was thrilled to find they had planned a social meeting during one of the weekends I would be there. The coordination was seamless, and to my delight, the club’s president reached out personally. In a gesture that epitomized Argentine hospitality, a club member invited me to join him in his 911 for the drive to the meeting venue—a decision that set the stage for an unforgettable experience.

The meeting took place at Estancia Villa Maria, now a boutique hotel ensconced within 74 hectares of parks designed in 1917, which served as our convivial gathering spot. Here, around 40 members and their cherished Porsches assembled, creating a tableau of automotive excellence. The estancia’s main building, a French-style mansion, stood majestically amidst pristine grounds, welcoming us to a day of leisure and fellowship.
The day was filled with relaxation and the opportunity to forge new friendships, all under the umbrella of our mutual love for automobiles and the esteemed brand.
We were greeted with a grand welcome at the estancia, where a sumptuous breakfast set the tone for the day. We were then escorted to another section where skilled gauchos on horseback showcased their remarkable talents. This was followed by an enchanting display of music and traditional dance, further immersing us in the local culture.
The centrepiece of the day was the traditional “asado” BBQ, an Argentine culinary staple. Beneath a canopy of trees, we savoured empanadas, salads, and the finest cuts of beef and chicken, all paired with a delightful Porsche Club of Argentina branded red wine as rich in flavour as the heritage it represented. The meal concluded with a traditional dessert, a sweet note to cap off a sumptuous feast.
The members’ warmth was palpable, and their eagerness to share experiences and compare notes about our respective clubs resonated deeply with me. Despite the 11,000 kilometres separating our homes and the distinct cultural and political landscapes we hailed from, the atmosphere was strikingly similar to that of the UCR gatherings back in Canada.
This encounter was a poignant reminder that the love for cars, the appreciation for the brand, and the spirit of camaraderie transcend borders. It solidified my belief in the common traits among Porsche owners worldwide. These traits forge a bond that is as strong as it is universal, uniting us in a global fraternity where diversity is celebrated and passion is the common language.
As I bid farewell to my newfound friends, I carried with me not only memories of a delightful day but also the affirmation that the essence of car enthusiasm knows no boundaries. It was an experience that enriched my soul and reaffirmed the universal language of car culture –
a language of connection, appreciation, and shared joy.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the prospects of organizing a joint driving adventure, a collaboration that would not only celebrate our shared passions but also foster a deeper connection between our clubs. </>
