Painting By Numbers

MY NAME IS BRAD DENNIS. I’ve been a member of PCA/UCR for 25+ years and have owned two Porsches during that time – a 1983 SC Targa, which I owned for 10 years, and I currently have a 1993 964 C2, which I purchased in the fall of 2012.

My hobby is painting – but not in the traditional sense. Given my limited artistic skills, I’ve embraced painting by numbers. I found a couple of websites that generate the canvas and supply the paint and brushes based on a photograph you send them. You can use their templates too if you wish.

This past winter, I combined my passions for painting and Porsches after a bucket list trip to Germany last fall. After spending two days scouring the museum and touring the 911 and Taycan factories, I rented a 718S for the day from Porsche Drive (based out of the museum), got on the Autobahn and headed for Baden-Baden and the spectacular roads of the Black Forest. It was an extraordinary day by any measure.

Shown above is a painting of a picture I took on that adventure – titled “718 Boxster S, Gernsbach, Germany. October 1, 2023.”

It truly was an epic day, and I’m reminded of it every time I look at the painting.

My current project is a painting of a butte in The Valley of the Gods in Utah from a road trip to SW USA this past winter. I’ve also done one from my daughter’s wedding photographs. I highly recommend it as a hobby. </>
