OBIT: Al Forest

Alexander “Al” Forest, passed away peacefully in his sleep November 16, 2024 in Orillia, Ontario. Preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Mary Forest. Husband to Jane (nee Steinsky-Sehnoutka), father of Alex “Sasha” (Sheri Syms), Michael “Misha” (Teryn) and Anthony, grandfather of Eric and Kathryn, brother to Jerry (Mary), Miro (Angela), Tom (Barb) and uncle to six nephews and their families.

Born and raised in Toronto, Al attended North Toronto Collegiate and the University of Toronto, graduating from the Engineering Science program. He started his career at Motorola followed by Rockwell Collins enabling him to move into his own business, KVA Communications. There, for 27 years, he consulted primarily on public safety 2-way radio systems before retiring in 2023.

Throughout his physically active life, he participated in and coached gymnastics and enjoyed sailing, cycling, juggling and all manors of human powered boating. A keen Formula One racing fan, he was known to take to the track in his beloved red Porsche Cayman. Ever the joyful and devoted fan, he supported the artistic endeavours of Tafelmusik and Opera Attelier among others, developing personal connections with the members of “the band”, gaining the title of Official Tafelmusik groupie.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anselm’s Parish, 1 MacNaughton Rd, Toronto, Ontario on Friday, November 29th. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service to begin at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestral, Opera Attelier, the Toronto Bach Festival.

  1. So saddened to hear of Al’ passing .. it was only a few months ago he was showing me the fast list around the auto cross course. I always thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Al .. doing the track walk .. and of course seeing him flying through the course. My condolences go out to Al’ family … he will be missed.
