Obit: Susan Shaw

With a very sad heart, I must announce the passing of my very dear friend, Susan Shaw. Susan passed away on Jan 18, 2025 at the young age of 79. Susan was full of life and vigour, having just returned from a cruise with her husband John and sons and grandchildren. It was a shock to us all when she was hospitalized and succumbed to cancer.

I met Susan and John on our first PCAUCR Germany Trip. I knew no-one on the trip, other than Stefan Walther who organized it. It didn’t take long to find a dear and lasting friendship with Susan and John. Susan loved Porsches and so do I. Susan loved gardening and so do I. Susan loved fashion and so do I. And of course we both loved food. Many meals were spent outdoors with the Shaws and UCR friends during Covid, socializing with distance. Susan took great care of me during Covid and brought her favourite meals from Summerhill Market and John and Susan would deliver them in her Lava Orange Boxster convertible “Pumpkin” to my doorstep.

Susan had an illustrious life growing up as a child and living in Nairobi, Ghana, London, Montreal and Toronto and educated in Switzerland and Canada. Susan flourished in her technology career. Susan is survived by her husband, John, 2 sons and their partners, three grandchildren, and Hugo, her adorable Great Pyrenees and many, many friends.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at the Toronto Badminton & Racquet Club, 25 St. Clair
Avenue W., on April 25th from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be
made to The Great Pyrenees Club of Southern Ontario Rescue.( https://www.great-pyrenees-club-of-southern-ontario.com/Great-Pyrenees-rescue.html )

Rest in peace, dear Susan Lucina Shaw. I miss you already.

  2. I am very sorry to read this post. I also first met Susan and John on the inaugural 2019 UCR Germany trip. Laurel’s post has truly captured Susan so well; an illustrious life full of travel, and a passion for family, friends, fashion, and good food. Their prized lava orange boxster was always easy to spot in the lot at many UCR events. Sending my sincere condolences to John and family on their loss.
