Some General Notes about the 2024 PCA-UCR Concours d’Elegance
The 2024 PCA-UCR Concours has two distinct separate categories:
1. The Show & Shine with 26 classes, where winners and runners-up are determined
through Peer-Judging. That means, your fellow entrants choose the car they deem to be
best in its class by going around the entire field to make their selections. This is a
relaxed, friendly competition where cars do not need to be absolutely pristine. Cleaned
up daily drivers are acceptable, as is the odd blemish and even rust bubble – it’s a car
show and gathering.
2. The Full-Concours category, where cars are judged by a team of trained judges and
winners and runners-up in 8 classes are determined based on condition and originality.
This is the fiercer competition, where every flaw with the vehicle will be noted and points
will be deducted. This can also be a great experience for the car owner to find out more
about the status of their Porsche.
In the Show & Shine category, entrants had the opportunity to enter one the following
special awards competitions: Best Presented, Best Preserved or Best Restored
Porsche in the show. The winners of these three awards will be selected by a team
consisting of the event organizers, along with representatives of our sponsors who will
be presenting these particular awards.
In the Full-Concours category, entrants will also be competing for the Judges’ Choice
Trophy, awarded to the best car in the Full-Concours by our title sponsor, Porsche
Centre Oakville.
All cars entered in both categories will also be eligible to win the People’s Choice
Trophy, which be determined by all participants and spectators present at the event.
Spectators enter the grounds at no charge. Porsche owners shy of entering their car
can also park it next to the Concours field in the Porsche-only parking area, again at no
cost.
Show & Shine cars, please arrive by no later than 9:00 am; the show starts at 10:00
am. As you can imagine, there will be quite a lot of activity early in the morning, with
everyone arriving, pretty much, all at once. That includes the participants, the sponsors,
the vendors, etc..
The cars will be positioned according to the year and model, so once you get there, you
will be directed to your spot immediately.
You’ll then walk to registration to get your registration package with the voting forms,
pick up your goodie bag, and you are then free to do what you wish to do, which may
include giving your car a quick wipe-down to get rid of any road grime from your trip
there. There will also be breakfast foods available from the park’s excellent facility on
site.
Format
As noted above, this year we are again having a two-category event and the two
categories are completely separate and the Full-Concours cars will be parked in their
own area.
Full-Concours cars, please arrive no later than 8:30 am. Your car should be emptied of
any personal items, cleaning supplies, etc.. Tool kits should be visible and can be
displayed in their designated place in the car or on the ground in front of the car. The
vehicle should be closed when the judges first approach, including any convertible top
or sunroof. The judges will then, after having an initial walk around the car, ask for the
car to be opened up (with the exception of the convertible top or sunroof). The lead
judge in each team will carry on any required conversation with the car owner. Note that
Boxsters and Caymans will not be judged on the appearance of their engines.
For Show and Shine, your car can be displayed closed or with open trunk and engine
lids, convertibles with top up or down – that is entirely up to you. Whichever way you
think your car is best presented is the way to go.
– Because this is not a full Concours, you can easily have your cleaning supplies tucked
away neatly in the trunk and, as there is no point system with judging, no points will be
deducted for this.
– You do not need to be with the car the entire time of the event. You can and should
wander around, make your class winner selections on your voting forms, have a bite or
refreshment, and socialize with your fellow Porsche enthusiasts. You may also want to
bring a folding chair in case you want to just relax by your car for a while.
– You are welcome to have something of a display with your car; interesting factoids and
photos or original brochures, a mascot, a fancy picnic basket, etc.. There will be an
award for the Best Presented Porsche at the show but that will also include the car’s
cleanliness and shine.
Your guests, and spectators in general, are welcome and enter free of charge and do
not need to register, so you can also bring along or invite your friends.
