It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of J. Brent Hunter on November 2, 2024, at the age of 62. Brent was born on March 9, 1962 in Oakville, Ontario. Brent was taken from us far too early by severe complications from Type One Diabetes, which he had been diagnosed with 20 years prior.
Brent’s first love may well have been the automobile and that is what he dedicated his entire professional life to, starting at the tender age of 17 as an automotive mechanic’s apprentice at Russel Motorsport in Mississauga. Later he joined Dave Margolese as a partner in Eurotune, specializing in the repair of German automobiles, until he finally went on his own with his automotive service shop, Hunter Motorsports in Mississauga.
Brent became an absolute expert in the restoration, service and even race prep of Porsche automobiles, both vintage and modern, taking to the racetrack himself as a very accomplished driver. He became highly regarded in the local Porsche community, not only by his many customers who usually also became his friends but also by his peers.
Brent’s great love later in life was his family, with his wife Patricia, whom he married 23 years ago, in Nassau in 2001, and their two children, Bindiya and Kinna, whom they adopted from India in 2016, as well as Patricia’s parents, Ria and Guenther Newiem. Brent was the very proud Papa of Bindiya and Kinna and loved to take all of them on family outings and trips.
Brent was pre-deceased by his parents, Janice and John Hunter, his brother, Mark Hunter, and his sister, Nancy Hunter.
Brent is survived by his wife, Patricia Newiem, his daughter Bindiya Newiem-Hunter, his son Kinna Newiem-Hunter, and his younger brother, Miles Hunter, as well as his nieces and nephew, Rachel and Lauren Hunter (Miles Hunter), and Cia and Connor Mellegers (Nancy Hunter).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to their GoFundMe page at https://gofund.me/79376eb2 to help them with immediate living expenses and funeral costs, as they were hit by this tragedy wholly unprepared. Alternatively, please consider a donation to Diabetes Canada.
Funeral services will be held under the direction of the McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, Scarborough Chapel, 2900 Kingston Road, Scarborough, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, with Visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and the Funeral Service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by a Reception.
