It was 2014 and I was looking for a solid vehicle when I discovered that a used Porsche Cayenne was an affordable option. I was not a Porsche enthusiast then but appreciated the quality of their cars. I found that asking prices in the $30 -$40,000 range for a 2006 model were in my price range. I eventually found a Turbo S with 110,000 km for $28,000 tax’s in. It was in really good condition and had never seen a winter. It still had a new leather smell, not surprising considering how much leather is inside.
On my drive home from the dealer, I fell in love. I could tell right away it was well made, handled nicely, was fast, and it was beautiful.
Nine years and 50,000 km later it has been stored covered outside in the winter but still has not seen a winter road.
Maintenance-wise I have been very fortunate to have an awesome mechanic Zoran at Zorotech who is located nearby. First up I had a turbo issue right away that was covered under warranty. Subsequent repairs over the 9 years include a drive shaft and bearing, coolant hose, control arm bearing, front rotors, plugs and coils, shocks for the back hatch, and a battery.
The Cayenne has recently become my second car, and it is now clear that I am a Porsche enthusiast, since I just purchased a 2007 Carrera 4S Cabriolet as a daily driver. I will now need to build a garage. I am now faced with a tough decision to use the Cayenne for the winter or keep my Dad’s 2010 Ford Focus as a bad-weather vehicle. Unfortunately, I do not have room for all three.
I did not buy these cars specifically for the satisfaction of ownership alone; rather I bought them to have fun and enjoy the experience of driving such impressive machines.
Since joining the Porsche Club earlier this year, so far, I have been on a driving tour and attended the annual picnic and enjoyed them both. Next year I look forward to taking the 911 to the track. </>
